Deception XIX: Why is the great whore called, "Babylon"?

Revelation 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Why is the great whore of Revelation 17 called Babylon?

GO TO THE SCRIPTURES

The Bible makes it very clear as to why she is called Babylon. This information is not complex or hard to follow. This is something that our people used to know, but with the rise of so many false teachers, false Bibles, false prophets and false churches with their accompanying heresies, it is hard to know the truth.

GO BACK TO DANIEL

In speaking of the last days the Lord Jesus Christ directs us back to the book of Daniel (Matthew 24:15; Mark 13:14). Daniel holds important keys for us.

NEBUCHADNEZZAR'S IMAGE

In Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had a dream of a great image (Dan 2). This image had

Daniel gave the interpretation of the dream. Each part of this image represented a world kingdom. Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, was the head--

Daniel 2:37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

Daniel 2:38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

Daniel 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

Daniel 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER KINGDOMS?

Nebuchadnezzar's great image represents the following four successive world kingdoms:

  1. Babylon
  2. Medes-Persians
  3. Grecia (Greece)
  4. Rome

There are only four of these kingdoms, no more. These are the ones to watch. There are many histories that one can study (Chinese, Native American, etc.), but the Bible shows us the chain we need to know and the order in which to study them--Babylon, Medes-Persians, Greeks, and Romans. Notice that Rome is the fourth and last kingdom. Notice who her head is--Babylon. That is why she is called Babylon the Great. Rome is the last and final member of a long-standing series of world monarchies that began with Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, over 2600 years ago in approximately 606 BC.

But how can we know for sure that these are the four kingdoms?

The proof is right in the scriptures--

THE FIRST KINGDOM

Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream. In the interpretation, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, was identified as the head of gold (Dan 2:38). In speaking to Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel said,

Daniel 2:38 ...Thou art this head of gold.

The head and beginning of the image is Babylon.

THE SECOND KINGDOM

The next kingdom would be the Medes-Persians. In Daniel 5 we read about the installation of the Medes-Persians. Belshazzar--king of Babylon and descendant of Nebuchadnezzar--saw a man's hand write a message on the wall. In interpreting the handwriting on the wall, Daniel says to king Belshazzar,

Daniel 5:28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

That night Belshazzar, king of Babylon, is slain and Darius the Median took the kingdom (Dan 5:30-31).

THE THIRD KINGDOM

In Daniel 8, Daniel goes on to prophesy about the installation of the third kingdom, that of the Greece. The interpretation is in Daniel 8:20-21. The ram with two horns represents the Medes-Persians and the rough goat represents the king of Grecia (this was Alexander the Great). Just look up these scriptures in your Authorized Version of the holy scriptures. The information is right there. Read the whole chapter and at some point read the whole book of Daniel.

Daniel even prophesies that when the great horn of the rough goat was broken four notable horns would stand up. After Alexander the great died in Shushan*, the palace, four of his generals would stand up to take over the kingdom (Antigonus, Lysimachus, Seleucus, Ptolemy--see "The Four Horns of Daniel Chapter 8".)

In the image, Grecia is the belly and thighs of brass. This includes the loin area, the region of generative power. Even today, the Greeks are called the rulers or masters of our world. Their architecture, learning, philosophies, etc. permeate the learning of industrialized nations. It has been kept alive. The costumes, idolatry, false worship of all these kingdoms have been kept alive.

THE FOURTH KINGDOM

By the time Christ was born, the fourth and final kingdom, Rome, was in power. Here is scriptural evidence detailing the very names of Roman caesars who were in power--

WHAT YOU ARE READING IS NOT AN OBSCURE INTERPRETATION OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR'S DREAM

Today there is so much confusing and conflicting information about the end times that I must let you know that what you are reading here is not an obscure interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream. The names are all found right in the scriptures but most of us are too ignorant and too untaught by the false church to see the information. I was in the same situation. That is why I am putting this information out here so that others can see it too.

The historical facts about these four kingdoms is undisputed--even amongst heathens. In my researches, I have gone to books and museums (not to prove the truth of the Biblical record but to look at artifacts, etc.) and have seen over and over again the same listing, in the same, exact order--

ROME IS STILL IN POWER

What the museums and books do not know--or do not reveal--is that Rome is still in power. They say that the Roman empire died in 476 AD, but it did not. Rome is still the world power, but it evolved into a somewhat new form,

the ROMAN Catholic church.

When the power of imperial Rome waned, her bishops (the popes) became the new caesars. That is why the pope walks around like the king of the world and lives in a palace and sits on a throne. Instead of having their own standing army, the popes have used the armies of other nations to do their bidding and to fight their wars. They have also used their own people, Catholics, as recusants to topple kings that were out of favour with the popes and had been deposed by the same. King James was a target of such attacks and wrote about this practice at length in his Workes of 1616. He called Roman Catholic king killing, "parricide" and "the murther of kings". King James is often scorned for his defense of the divine right of kings, but in light of his fight against the incessant usurping tendencies of Rome, his defense of the divine right of kings takes on a new light.

pontiff_Roman_coin Through the centuries, the popes have continued to take the styles and names of the caesars. The pope is still called "pontifex maximus" which means, "high priest" just like the caesars were (see the inscription "maxim pontiff" on the reverse side of a Roman coin at left). There are many other such styles that they have retained. Popes are modern emperors, they live in a palace, the Vatican, and are far richer than any other king who has ever lived. The vestal virgins are now nuns. MYSTERY, BABLYLON THE GREAT is truly a mystery in many ways, but exploration of her at this time is outside the scope of this treatise.

All history is not equally important. There is no need for the Christian to become an expert on the history of every nation. The scriptures name four, and only four, to watch. The scriptures give us an overview of the first three. Now the world has been living under the last one, Rome for over two thousand years. What has she done? What is she doing? What are her goals?

Modern day locations of the four kingdoms--

Why is the great whore called, "Babylon"? Babylon is her fountain and spring. Even the New American Bible (a Catholic Bible) says that Babylon is the symbolic name of Rome. See the bottom of this page with a quote from the New American Bible stating this.

In the Roman Catholic institution, we find an amalgamation of her progenitors--an amalgamation of their worship, costumes, learning, etc. Where did nuns and monks come from? Where did worshipping saints come from? Where did the little statue idols come from? Where did purgatory come from? Where did the pope's big hat come from? Where did his throne come from? A cursory look back in the annals of history will discover the answers to these questions.

THE LORD SENT US BACK

In speaking of the abomination of desolation, the Lord Jesus directed us to the book of Daniel (Matt 24:15, Mark 13:14). Daniel is for us today. Daniel was curious about the revelations that he received, but was told to seal up the book for it was for the time of the end. These times in which we live are the end. It is time for the visions of Daniel to be loosed and understood. Daniel 11 teaches that in the end times, those that know their God shall be strong and do exploits and they that understand among the people shall instruct many.

Rome has been in power since the days of Christ and still is.

THE FOURTH BEAST: DREADFUL, TERRIBLE, STRONG EXCEEDINGLY

Daniel's beasts of Daniel chapter seven were all named--a leopard, a bear, a lion...all except for one--the fourth and final beast. There is no animal in the animal kingdom with which to compare it. It cannot be likened to any creature. Daniel called it, "dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly."

Daniel 7:19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;

Daniel 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

The more one learns about Rome and her vassals through the ages, the more one can understand this description. I am not here to send the reader on any such journey. Rome's doctrines are enough to reject her and call her antichrist, but those who are acquainted with her actions through the ages can understand this description right well and can even smell her when various brutal decrees come forth that deny freedom, increase tyranny, decrease learning, etc. She stamps in pieces and bruises. One cannot win with her. One can only be her willing victim and live in oppression or, one can resist her and be brutalized. She has killed untold millions through her Crusades, Inquisitions, and conquests. Formed in response to the Protestant reformation, Jesuits have infiltrated and toppled nations and started wars and chaos. The Jesuits have been thrown out of dozens of countries in times past. When examining history, one can see that the Mother has used certain strategems through the ages, perfecting techniques and changing the names of things. For instance, the bloodthirsty office of Inquisition changed its name.

PETER'S SUCCESSORS?

The pope claims to be "Peter's successor" (as in the apostle Peter). There is no such office in the Bible yet the Roman Catholic institution claims that there has been an UNBROKEN apostolic line starting with Peter and that after him, each succeeding pope has taken his place as chief apostle. Some of the vilest men have been popes--and yet the names of these wicked popes are still listed on their lists of Peter's supposedly unbroken successors. The following is excerpted from "The Antichrist Slideshow" (anti9.htm)--

[a number of popes] sired bastard children, and even had some of those children made popes themselves! There was even a pope who was murdered by a jealous husband [the pope committed adultery with his wife]... The box below lists some of the popes who sired future popes. Popes have not ministered to Christians, they have persecuted Christians. It it said that in the aftermath of the the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre (where approximately 100,000 French Protestants were killed at the instigation of Jesuits during a time of peace), there was joy in Rome and that a commemorative medal was even struck for the "joyous" occasion.

R.W. Thompson said this about the St. Batholomew's Day Massacre:

"There is no intelligent reader of French history who is not familiar with the steps taken by this perfidious queen regent [ Catherine de Medici ] after the admission of the Jesuits into Paris, to bring about the terrible Massacre of St. Bartholomew -- an event so closely allied with others, of which they were the undoubted authors, that one must close his eyes not to see the evidences which point to their agency in that infamous transaction. They needed such bloody work to give them the mastery over France; although they have since then been more than once expelled in disgrace from French soil, they have returned again and again to torment her people, who still continue to realize, under their [ Third ] Republic, how unceasingly they labor for the entire overthrow of every form of popular government." Under the popes we have the Crusades and the infamous Inquisitions, etc. a series of bloodbaths performed under the auspices of the popes through the centuries.

Nebuchadnezzar's fourth kingdom, Rome, NEVER died, notwithstanding the claims of history books that say she died in 476 AD. "Imperial Rome" with its big army faded to the background, but the Roman whore came out of the rubble. By her sorceries are nations deceived (see Revelation 18:23). With a cursory search on the internet, one can find pictures of the whore with the kings of the earth--presidents of the United States, South America, Europe, Africa, et al. She deals with them and their countries.

Bedroom talk is in the bedroom. But we can see abominations like hate laws in the streets.

Nowadays, when a person soberly notes Rome's heretical doctrines compared to the Bible, or her on-the-record history, they risk being called a "hate group" or, "anti-Catholic" (like she is the only one not subject to historical analysis). At this time, she cannot terrorize the people like she used to. According to former Roman Catholic priest, Richard Bennett, her pattern is to get laws on the books first and then act to enforce the laws --

To recognize the dominant position to which the Roman Catholic Church aspires and which she has always desired, it is essential [to] understand how she has acted in the past -- for the pattern is still the same. Her aspirations must be codified in law before they can be enacted effectively. Rome has always constructed the machinery of law within her own system before she is able to impose on others what she traditionally has called her "just penalties" for disobedience. -- "The Pattern of Papal Persecutions, Then and Now" by Richard Bennett (in this article, Mr. Bennett reviews how Rome used brutal laws in the past and examines possible scenarios for the future even involving the UN and the EU)

Today things are heating up against Christians as time comes to an end. We hear about "hate laws", "hate speech", etc. The Bible reveals that through his POLICY (like laws) the beast shall cause craft to prosper (ref. Daniel 8:25). One policy ("do what I say, or else!), law, or series of laws, can subdue a whole nation. Under the guise of tolerance and multi-culturalism, unconstitutional laws are being enacted, immigration laws are not properly enforced, tax dollars are filtered to agencies supporting illegal immigrants, school children are indoctrinated with foreign concepts while being prohibited access to our Bible, oh and so much more...Once awakened to this, a person can see the latest abomination a mile off.

Dr. Alberto Rivera made an interesting point. He that said Rome has no army (the Swiss Guard is not an army), yet she has every army. She has long used "the secular arm" (armies) to achieve her goals, to gain lands, and to forward her Inquisitions. If you want to prove the truth of this assertion, start with Charlemagne around 800 A.D. and see how the pope crowned him emperor of the "Holy" Roman Empire (actually go back to Constantine around 312 AD). That move welded together the papacy and various states in relations that have endured unto the current day with the concordats and treaties that the "holy see" is still signing, like the Montreal Protocol.

Considerations...

PETER'S CHAIR?

The pope claims to sit in "Peter's chair". The Roman Catholic institution claims that the pope's position is derived from Peter's apostolic position. When do we ever read about Peter sitting on a throne and living in a palace like the Vatican? Never. When do we ever read about Peter expecting somebody to bow down to him? Never. When Cornelius fell down at Peter's feet and worshipped him, Peter took him up and told him, "Stand up; I myself also am a man." (ref. Acts 10:25-26) The exact opposite of the pope.

What about the ROMAN caesar? Did caesar sit on a throne? Did people bow to Roman caesars and pay them obesaince? Of course.

No, the pope does not occupy Peter's chair, he occupies Caesar's chair.
